Scooter Rental in Bottle Beach
Bottle Beach (Haad Khuat) is, by fairly broad consensus, the most beautiful beach on Koh Phangan — a small curving bay of fine white sand between two jungle headlands on the far north coast, with turquoise water and almost nothing built on the beach itself beyond three small family-run bungalow operations. There's no paved road in, no electricity grid, and no noise beyond the cicadas and the sea. In a country with thousands of beaches, this one still stands out.
Bottle Beach has no road access. You get here two ways: **longtail boat** from Chaloklum pier (around 150-200 THB per person, 20 minutes, runs throughout the day until around 5 pm), or the **Bottle Beach jungle hike** from the trailhead on the coastal road near Haad Khom, which takes 45 minutes uphill and down through steep jungle (proper shoes, water, not for children).
A scooter gets you to either the Chaloklum pier or the trailhead, but not onto the beach itself. Most visitors ride from wherever they're staying to Chaloklum, park the scooter at the pier's informal lot, and take the longtail over. Day trips work well — leave in the morning, longtail in, swim and eat lunch at one of the bungalow restaurants, longtail back mid-afternoon. If you want to stay overnight (and you probably should if you like beaches), book one of the three bungalow camps directly; they're basic but the location is unbeatable.
The ride to Chaloklum from Thong Sala is 25-30 minutes on flat easy roads. From Sri Thanu it's 15 minutes. Fill up at the Thong Sala PTT before you leave — the north coast has almost no fuel.

Road Conditions in Bottle Beach
The road to Chaloklum is flat and easy. The short road from Chaloklum to the Bottle Beach hike trailhead is paved and short. The hike itself is off any road network. There is no scooter access to Bottle Beach itself — don't try to ride in.
Parking in Bottle Beach
Park at the Chaloklum pier informal lot (free, not guarded — bring a cable lock). If you're doing the hike, park at the trailhead dirt area near Haad Khom. Neither lot has any security, so don't leave valuables in under-seat storage. The Chaloklum pier is busier and feels a bit safer than the trailhead lot.
Where to Get Fuel in Bottle Beach
None at Bottle Beach, Chaloklum pier, or anywhere near the trailhead. The nearest fuel station is back in Thong Sala. Always start the day on a full tank.
Best Time to Visit Bottle Beach
December to April for the calmest north-coast water — Bottle Beach faces north and can get rough swell in the monsoon. October-November tropical storms often cancel longtail crossings entirely. July and August are a quieter dry window. Visit on a weekday if you can — weekends bring day-trippers.
Safety Tips for Bottle Beach
The scooter ride to Chaloklum is one of the safer rides on Koh Phangan. The longtail crossing is safe in calm conditions. The jungle hike is more demanding than people expect — it's genuinely strenuous with steep sections and loose rocks. Don't attempt the hike in flip-flops, don't do it with small children, and take enough water. There is no medical access on Bottle Beach itself — in an emergency, longtails can run back to Chaloklum and on to hospital in Thong Sala.

Riding Tips for Bottle Beach
**Last longtail back from Bottle Beach is typically 5 pm.** Check with the boatman on the way over — missing the last boat means sleeping on the beach.
The hike is genuinely strenuous — proper shoes, water, and not in flip-flops.

Book bungalows directly by phone or by walking up — they're basic and don't take online bookings.
